GLE - is one of the leading manufacturers of carbide gages, carbide tooling, ceramic tooling products and a combination of carbide and ceramic along with other hard materials. The products are used in a broad range of applications where the qualities of hardness and resistance to abrasive wear are of prime importance. Tungsten carbide (WC) is one of the hardest materials made by man - it is harder than sapphire and harder than any heat treated steel. It approaches the hardness of diamond and can be used to scribe or cut glass. Some ceramics materials approach the hardness of tungsten carbide (WC).
We manufacture precision products and special carbide tooling, carbide components and wear parts to customer print, and carbide gages and masters. The tooling includes forming dies, punches, dies and die inserts for forming, piercing, perforating, swaging, sealing, crimping, compacting, etc.; die plates and holders; dies and inserts for extruding, drawing, sizing, etc.; special tools for burnishing, roll forming, grooving, broaching; drill bushings; gage locating pins, contact tips and pads; and ground carbide rod and tubing (for EDM electrodes).
The carbide components for manufacturers' products, produced to their prints, include special rotary bushings; valve seats; shafts, bearings, and washers for flow meters and other rotary applications; precision ways for high-speed computer disk readers; print wires and guides for high-speed matrix printers; punch and die assemblies for tape perforators; precision buttons and needles; cut-to-length tool blanks, special component wear parts, etc.
Carbide plug and ring gages and OD, ID masters, standard and special, are produced to tolerances as close as 5 millionths inch. Special gage mechanisms and details for indicators and electronic sensors are built to print. We also inspect, rework, calibrate, and certify existing cylindrical gages as a service.
